At a conference I attended in Atlanta, Georgia, during the mid-1980s I heard Dr. Howard Hendricks deliver a spellbinding talk. One of the things he said during that talk, and something that has remained important to me to this day, is the statement, “Readers are leaders and leaders are readers.” Today I am more convinced than ever that those words are absolutely true. One of the things that has been most surprising and disturbing to me is how little many of those in positions of leadership read.
